So below are examples of what I have seen lately and some of my tips not to get caught out and loose your accounts

Scam #1

A message was being broadcast over trade channel for a spectral tiger for 5k Gold, Too good to be true right? well a friend of mine didn't think so and went to meet the person to give them the gold, The person selling it was a level 80 and in a guild so the friend thought it would be ok to trust. Once he got down there he handed over the gold the scammer gave him a few fake codes to try and then flat out told him he had hacked the persons account and just scammed him.

Scam #2

This one is by far the weirdest one i have ever seen, They got onto this persons account and pretended to by the son of an officer in the guild, Messaging whoever was on in the guild asking for the officer in questions account info because he needed to play his "dads" toon, Several mins later he was asking in trade who had the most gold on the server

Scam #3

Recently I noticed an applicant guildmate on at at about 6pm my time, Which is 3am server time which was odd in the first place because he was never usually on at that time, The player logged off about 7 times which i thought was odd but i assumed he was tweaking his UI or something of that nature, Then out of blue i get a tell from the player saying that he knows some people who want to transfer and are in a yogg killing guild and asked for my email, I responded why would you need my email when the players can just log over on a level 1 alt to talk to me. The person did not respond to my tells, Then logged on the players alts on and off for the next 15 mins or so.

Upon checking with another officer in the guild he had also got the same message from the person at the same time, Later the player showed up to the raid and said he had a keylogger and lost all his gold, As well as a character re-customization pending

Scam #4

Most recent one, Was a guy asking for 1k for 1k gold trade, Which was obviously a scammer

Tips

Here is some helpful tips for everyone.

* Never give out your private information in wow to anyone, ever. It's very easy for someone to gain your trust and just ask for something simple like your email account for you to loose your account.

* never enter your personal wow information to ANY website other then worldofwarcraft.com some peopel send out phising emails saying hey your trying to sell your account go to http://www.vvorldofwarcraft.com you have to be very carefull, No blizzard person will ever ask you to verify your information unless its over the phone to their support line.

* Don't be an idiot, Honestly a lot of this crap is commen sence and not browesing dodgy sites, downloading torrents and open up the files inside without first scanning them with an anti-virus and spybot software

* If it sounds to good to be true, 99% of the time it is. So when in doubt play it safe and never buy things like TCG cards, Beta keys, an unusual high amount of goods for an extremely cheap price from someone you have never heard of or seen.

* Get an Authenticator, its cheap and it will prevent people from getting into your account. Don't know how much i can stress this but if you cant look after your account, arnt confident to do so or just want security, BUY ONE

* Use a secure browser one of the easiest ways people can execute malicious code is through your browser, Sites that seem so real can still have the code on the sites.

I personally recommend Firefox with Noscript addon, It prevents malicious code from being ran by the browser and allows you to add trusted sites to it.

* Get an antivirus and spyware/bot software, This will remove virus, Bots, worms etc from your PC and help prevent against them

I personally recommend Avast Home Addition as its lightweight when playing wow and doesn't interfere to much, For a spyware program i would have to say spy bot search and destroy which is free and probably the best one out there.

* If your going to you your email address for chatting to people, shopping online, eBay, PayPal. Use a good spam filter, Most email clients usually have spam filters in them but you need to be aware that some of them do make in through, Anyone and i mean anyone can send a fake email from noreply@blizzard.com as it's so easy to fake a message from an email address. In a lot of scam emails I have got its from an email address like that which will have a link to a website that will look like a blizzard website but is actually something like Vv instead of w, Its little things like this you need to be extra careful of and remember the golden rule blizzard will never ask for passwords, address etc in game or in emails. Make sure you are always in SSL (https://) when looking at your emails online through your web browser, Which can be enabled in options or in your email account options for a secure connection.

Also be very careful of emails with attachments even from family and friends because they can still have worms, virus, keyloggers in them

I Personally recommend using 2 emails, One for secure information (such as bills, eBay, wow account etc) and one for general chatting, Probably the best free encrypted email service you can use is hushmail.com, with gmail as a second email.

Keepass password manager

Use this program to manage your passwords, I use this to generate and remember my passwords for every different forum I frequent so none of my passwords are the same and they are very hard to crack, here is an example of what a Gmail password can look like, Also it has a copy password feature on a timer so if you clear your cache in your browser you can just copy and paste it back in

Authenticator
I can’t stress this enough YOU NEED AN AUTHENTICATOR every single wow player does, its $6 and its free postage and it will save you a lot of headaches with account security issues, they aren’t 100% safe because of the way that was discovered recently but no blizzard enables you to send your PW and auth code to the server preventing this from happening.

Be smart, down download shit from random website, Don’t go to sites that look dodgy, never ever EVER take emails sent to you from wowaccount admin as real, thunderbird will always tell you if they are legit or not usually, Download Firefox and install this program called no script, it will help stop malicious code being run through JavaScript

macs get done too their to budy and dont say they are more secure because they have some vunerable software thats took 32 (can't rmember the real time) seconds to break into via a web browser, yum! its just that no one can be botherd to write programs that may or may not effect 5% of the population! when you can make something for windows and effect almost every retard with a pc and internet connection!
